The brief
The client — painter Kate Owen — needed a dedicated studio that could handle serious canvas work: north light without heat load, ventilation for solvents, a mezzanine for storage, and a floor that could take paint.
The approach
A raked-ceiling volume with a battened timber mezzanine, tall industrial glazing, and a sealed white poured floor. Externally we detailed the building as a quiet farm-shed form so it sits with the existing sheds rather than fighting them.
The result
A studio Kate uses every day, that photographs as well as it functions, and that has already become a landmark on the property.
